Does anyone know how much power a stock LS7 clutch will hold? I plan to do some more upgrades soon and will (hope) to be around 480-490rwhp. I will be going to the track maybe once a month or so.

from my understanding, the stock ls7 clutch is good for about 750hp. i'm not sure whether it's to the wheels, but you should be good. besides the feel would be great for daily driving...

Test it out and then come back and let us know :)

If it breaks it obviously wasn't made for that much power :)

LOL thanks, it sounds like yall want me to the lab rat

The LS7 clutch should hold up to the power levels you're talking about - 480/490rwhp.

750....no

The LS7 motor is rated at 505HP => about 450rwhp. They slip at the track on stock Vettes. They are not made for drag racing. Yeah, some people have had good luck with them for a while, but why not spend a little extra and get a really good clutch. I for one only want to have to do it once.

Well I wouldn't do it even with your power levels now! I'm at 423rwhp and got very few passes at the track before it let go. Even imo 1 time a month is too much for that clutch if your running tire. I had good experience on the street with it while I was stock even at the track. I would recomend looking into something else to handle your power level and for where you plan to be if you will be tracking the car at all

Your sig numbers say driver mod not bad clutch :)

I've put nearly 100 passes at 505/502 rw and some extreme street driving on a LS7 clutch with no problems. Break it in right and you will have no problems as long as you know how to drive.

4000 RPM slips are going to kill any clutch.

For $450 it's the best thing going.

How you use a clutch trumps any so called power ratings.

Everyone wants a sound bite or easily digested number to substitute for actually understanding a given situation, whether it be politics or clutches.

I agree. Misuse or abuse will toast about any clutch. I was running over 600whp with the stocker clutch and looked like brand new when taken out to remove the motor. Went with a BOP Talon clutch during the re-build, but would have been tempted to keep the stocker if I had seen it's condition before I ordered the BOP!

Your right. That was my issue. 4300rpm slips at the track on Mickey thompsons and nittos I think I had around 30 to 40 passes on the first ls7 10K miles and lots of Smokey burnouts. Loved it on the street. But it no longer suits my driving style at the track

Mine seems to be ok at my power level, but if I decided to do a few 80-140 passes, the pedal starts to feel extremely light. I'll go with a different one next year, probably a Monster Clutch.

Maybe my first post was a little exaggerated on the ability of the ls7. It was awesome for the longest time even at the track. I have done TONES of Smokey burnouts on and off the track and tones off hard launches at over 4K. I am in no way nice to the clutch and it didn't suprise me when it went out. But if it were me with my driving habbits I would try something different Wich I am the monster stage 3. Not trying be an ass btw to the one who said driver mod just wanted you to know there was more to it than what you know

No hard feelings. Not gonna lie didn't pay attention to the smiley when I first read. I'm browsing from my blackberry and I don't catch everything. My bad dude. I can take jokes just didn't catch that at first. Thanks for the definition it esplained a lot to me now my day will be much easier :)

Glad I could help. By the way, I'm busting your balls and only had my GTo for about 4 months and ever been to the track...

I've seen the "One answers" over and over during almost 3 years, get this clutch "X", no wait, that one didn't work out so well, this is new $hiat, "X" best clutch in the planet, 2-3 months later, oh wait, that one is POS, the customer service sucks, bla, bla, bla.

At least monster clutches are not stupid priced, but we'll see how long they'll last sooner or later.

I've been using an LS7 clutch for around 1.5 years and change, i have over 40k miles on it, yes, my car is not a drag warrior, but i managed at least 30-40 passes at 4000rpm launches on Nitto DR's, broke my T56 twice if any of you think i was babying this puppie out :), and have accumulated at least 15k miles doing crazy freeway runs in 2nd , 3rd and 4th gear doing VE and MAF tuning, in the last 6 months.

this clutch have never smelled, or went mushy, or went barely making it out of the floor like the stocker did, I'm at the same hp level as the OP, and if i have to pick between my LS7 clutch again and any other clutch out there, i'll say i'll blindy pay another $400 for the LS7.

Granted, if you do a lot of drag racing with MT's or slicks, and have at least a cam only setup, the LS7 is not the right clutch, for a cam only street car that sees the track ocassionally on Nitto DR's or a couple of runs with borrowed MT's, the LS7 can't be beaten in price and reliability.

The LS7 clutch went in at 14k miles, my car has 56k miles today. do the count, $400 can take you a long ways depending on what you really do with the car...

my .02 cents.

Had the clutch in for just over a year and I need a new one now. I've only been to the track 3 times with 4 passes max at each.

From what i've read this clutch is not meant for over the 400 rwhp because of our heavy cars. But there's nothing to stop you from finding out for yourself.

Were you launching at high RPMs and slipping i throughout 1st gear?

I expect that you won't have much better luck out of any other clutch made for the car. You'll find that most people describe their performance clutches as on/off switches. Slipping the clutch and the heat from that kills clutches. Very few people on this board, out of the whole, have killed properly driven/broken in clutches with sheer power (the clutch slipping due to it's inability to hold at high RPMs after being fully engaged in lower RPMs)

I had to resurface and balance mine B4 install then only lasted 2 passes. 3rd pas hit second and major slip. Like breaks when they over heat they go away. Slight upgrade for street, they do work good and smooth.
