I want to pick up a scanner for my 04 GTO and I see a number of different readers out there and I'm curious if there is one everyone prefers or one I should stay away from.
For instance I see a bunch of ads or links for a Vetronix Tech2 and it is offered with and without accessories connectors and such as well as with or without a memory card.
Do you need the memory card? would you need all those different connectors? I'll only be using it for this car.

Thanks in Advance!

Sorry if this has been covered adnauseam. I looked for a search function but didn't see one.

So I use an OBDLinkMX BT module. for the connection module - works on my laptop and my mobile.

For the GM's I use both Torque Pro on the mobile with GM enhancements, and I use SCANTOOL XL software on my win10 laptop. I ended up using that software becasue it would read all the modules on my G8 - and thus I would figure it would read the GTO correctly too.

NOTE NOT ALL Software bits will read the AUS based cars correctly, or at all. SCANTOOL Xl will read the SRS (Airbag) codes on the G8 which was a big deal a few years ago.

I suggest a module like that because why would you use a cheap OBD connection to your 1000's of dollar car. OBDLink gets regular module firmware updates has some fail safe features and so far works great. They make a USB module and they make a WIFI one. I chose BT to use with my mobile.

Another alternative if you were tuning - is the new HP tuners wireless all model MPVI module. it's pretty nice, I don't own one though. I have an older USB GM specific one.

you do need the accessories with the tech ii. it needs a memory card and the candi module if you want to use in on canbus vehicles, as well as at least the obdii connector. i also think it also needs the appropriate software downloaded into the card from the gm dealer techline connect (i think that's what it's called? i dunno.)
